My knowledgeable and adventurous tour guides picked me up at Newark and then drove to Penn Station where we caught the train to New York and the subway to Manhattan.
Our first stop was Candle 79 (located on 79th Street), quite possibly the most amazing organic/vegan eating experience anyone will ever have. While we waited for appetizers, the chef sent out three slices of carrots topped with a mouth-watering cheese made from cashews.
My Moroccan Spiced Chickpea Cake with seasonal vegetables, red pepper-coconut curry, ginger-apricot-date chutney, and toasted almonds.
Our dessert. A chocolate-peanut butter layer creation with berry coulis.
My favorite building in the city skyline is the Chrysler Building, so I was pretty excited to see it in person.
From Candle 79 we headed toward the bright lights of Rockefeller Center, passing Saint Patrick’s Cathedral on the way.
Radio City.
Times Square was twice as large as I thought it would be, as bright as day, and still incredibly crowded even though it was nearly 1 a.m.
My tour guides by Macy’s.
We had a few minutes before the last train, so we wandered through the lobby of the Empire State Building.
