I got a job! In March. But because of schedule conflicts, I was not able to do employee orientation until this month. So here is the J. Willard Marriott (yeah, like the hotel) Library.
The third and fourth floors viewed from the fifth floor.
The library is 500,000 square feet and has more than 3,000,000 books.
The architecture library entrance, with the womb chairs in the foreground. The womb chairs are fantastic, a great way to cause immediate sleepiness when you’re trying to read.
The first stop on our orientation tour was preservation. They do non-digital, in-real-life Photoshopping. It is pretty impressive.
The ARC (automated retrieval center)! A series of robot arms wander through the bins and bring the correct ones up to the yellow holders.
An octopus printed on the 3D printer! Students in 3D modeling classes can get their creations printed. There is also a department that will publish your book for you, cover art, multiple copies and everything.
The view from the lunch room.
When the weather is warm, lunch usually happens on the library plaza.
The library plaza fountain.
The 3D printer making another octopus, and the ARC robot taking a bin back to its home.
