Going to Canada for Nene’s birthday!
The birthday girl has Alice in Wonderland shoes.
Border inspection, where Nene got asked the Harry-Potter-esque (a.k.a. British) question, “So you work for the Ministry of Health?” (she’d said she works for the Department of Health) followed by the Canadian-esque question, “So you actually live in Colville, eh?” It was awesome.
A 31 miles-per-hour sign.
Canadian rest stop graffiti.
Canadian rest stop picnic table with the sound of roaring water coming from further up the trail.
Oh just a typical Canadian rest stop waterfall. (I think this is bigger than all the ones I’ve hiked to in Southern California. And the sign didn’t even make a big deal out of it, calling it a “creek.”)
The view from Gyro Park.
Gyro Park was my first introduction to brilliant Canadian landscaping.
Looking up the Nelson hill from Gyro Park.
Oso Negro cafe in Nelson. Another example of awesome architecture, both in the building and in the landscaping. I couldn’t fit the awesome in my camera, so I’m using this picture of the food display case instead. While we were at Oso Negro, I overheard someone say, “Happy Thanksgiving,” and was suddenly taken back to my days of visiting Newbold where I learned that Canadian Thanksgiving is in October.
Turns out Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October, so we were there the day before Thanksgiving. Yellow Deli was closed, and most other shops were closed by 4 p.m. So we ended up doing a lot of window shopping.
Typical awesome Nelson architecture.
So fluffy!
We managed to get into the Outer Clove before they closed. It’s a garlic/space-themed restaurant, and the food was fantastic. This is the orbit burger with a roasted sweet potato, chickpea, and millet patty served on a sourdough Kaiser roll with feta (which I skipped), beets, aioli, spinach, tomatoes, and red onions. The side salad has goddess dressing and is topped with two cloves of roasted garlic.
In the bathroom at the Outer Clove.
My first BC Mustang!
Walking up the hills in Nelson.
A sign in one of the tiny neighborhood parks. The park also had art prints posted.
Time to go back to Colville.
Steven was nice enough to not only point out Genelle, BC, but also to turn the car around so I could take pictures of the sign.
Nene and Steven catch Canadian Pokemon.
