Nene led another rhododendron hunt, this time to Capitol Campus. The capitol building is the fifth-highest masonry dome in the world and weighs the equivalent of 8850 Volkswagen Beetles in stone and granite, 5538 Orca Whales in brick, and 3740 African Elephants in concrete. (I wish I could say I came up with those comparisons, but they’re from the website.)
It was a little early (supposedly there’s a wall of rhododendron bushes that will blow your mind when it’s at full power), but we did okay on the flower finds.
What blew my mind was what looked like a service/delivery entrance that was this beautiful.
We ended up visiting while a wedding party was taking photos. They had matching clear plastic umbrellas (since it was on-and-off raining), a herd of Mercedes G-Class SUVs, and a black Ferrari.

There’s a fantastic view of the waterfront and the mountains from campus, and the Winged Victory monument (the WWI memorial) in the middle of the circular drive.
