The park has a trail that goes along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. It was awesome, exactly the sort of thing I imagined doing in a national park in Maine. It starts at Sand Beach. A view of the cliffs from Sand Beach. The view from the cliffs. The granite is pink because of feldspar. The next stop on the hike is Thunder Hole (named for the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks). The water is supposed to crash into this inlet and make a fireworks display of ocean spray, but it sort of only works at high tide. (So there wasn’t much happening when I was there.) And the last stop is Otter Cliff, which has a great view back toward Sand Beach. By janellemichaelisSeptember 14, 2022
