I’d never heard of a red-sauce joint before. The description makes it sounds like a genre of Italian restaurants that you’d see in the movies: essential Italian dishes served in a classic, almost old-world dining room. About as far from vegan as you can get.
That’s one of the reasons John’s of 12th Street is remarkable. (Plus they actually used to be a mob hangout.) They’re a red sauce joint with an extensive vegan menu, and they’ve had their vegan menu long before it was popular. Plus they were nearby! So I opted for the vegan eggplant parmesan (which comes with spaghetti and bread) and some chocolate vegan cannoli.
“Traditional & vegan Italian restaurant.”
