And finally, the last installment in the Food in Long Beach series: Seabirds. It’s 100% vegan, top-notch quality, and like their website says, “The food doesn’t leave you feeling like a greasy shitball.” Their website also says they’ve been voted best vegan restaurant by the LA Times.

And the food is just. so. good. (This is the Chipotle Florentine: polenta cakes topped with spinach, avocado, tofu-egg, smokey chipotle hollandaise, and green onion.)
Seabirds has the best of a lot of things: the best nachos? Seabirds. Best burger? Seabirds. Best breakfast benedict? Bibimbap bowl? Tomato soup and grilled cheese? Old-fashioned donut? Breakfast sandwich? Seabirds.
I used to commute past Seabirds. And it’s on the way home from LAX. So I’ve often been hungry and tired only to have Seabirds appear on the horizon, offering a variety of comfort food.
The grilled cheese and tomato soup is one of their best items. The sandwich is cashew gruyere, basil avocado pesto, and American cheese on sourdough.
And their brunch items are excellent. This is the Classic Waffle.
Although their Beets Me Burger is supposed to be the best (it was featured in the New York Times), my favorite is the BBQ Burger. It’s a house-made patty, Kansas-style BBQ sauce, fried pickled onions, American cheese, shredded lettuce, herb mayo, and dill pickles on a brioche bun. (And normally I don’t even like onions.)
The Biscuit Bomb is another brunch classic. (Seasoned tofu, maple-fennel tempeh, spinach, aji yolk sauce, and maple drizzle on a rosemary cheddar biscuit.)
Before the pandemic, Seabirds had the best donuts. (Not sure if they’ve been back since then.)
Seabirds came through on National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day with a BOGO offer.
