Bakers Bench started as a kiosk in Chinatown’s Far East Plaza, and they’ve just opened their brick-and-mortar (also in Chinatown). Head chef Jennifer Yee has worked at places like The French Laundry and at one point set out to make the best vegan croissant.
I went with a chocolate croissant, a peach croissant, and a hot garlic corn croissant. The chocolate croissant was burned, but the chocolate they use (which I think is TCHO Chocolate) was so outstanding that I think I need to go back and try again. The peach one was excellent, it seemed to have some sort of cream filling with it. But the stand-out was the corn. The flavor combinations were perfect, and the corn tasted like it’d just been sawed off the cob.
