The Original Farmers Market 5.10.25
One of the nice things about New York is the high concentration of things to do in a small area. In Los Angeles you usually have to drive 20 minutes between each thing. Not so at the Los Angeles Farmers Market however. In the 3rd/Fairfax block they’ve got the farmers market stalls right next to The Grove (a high-end shopping mall), with a vegan restaurant called Green Table Cafe across the street.
The farmers market started in July of 1934 as a way for people to make money during the depression. It was wildly popular from the start and they made it permanent three months later.
It’s less of a produce-type market and more of a restaurant/shop/cafe type market. I knew Nonna’s Empanadas had some vegan options, so I headed their first. They had a Beyond Meat empanada and a Samosa Veggie empanada.
I also stopped a Green Table Cafe for a meal. They said they were famous for their tofu-egg scramble and their mock tuna. I went with the egg toast for my first visit, and it was stellar.
And finally I wandered through the mall. I’m not a huge fan of shopping, but this mall is so nice that you don’t mind being there even when there’s nothing you want to buy.
