Because it’s in the rain shadow (which is created by the Olympic Mountains), Sequim is supposedly the sunniest place in Washington and gets about as much rain as Los Angeles. That makes it a great place for growing sun-loving lavender.
Some places, like Graymarsh Farm, grow lavender and other things (including all kinds of berries). August is definitely past the end of boysenberry season, but Graymarsh had some left, so I wandered up there for a u-pick afternoon.
They give you a bucket lined with a plastic bag so that when you leave you can just close up the bag and take it with you.
The weather was flawless–warm sun with a cool breeze–and I was the only person in the boysenberry section, so the whole experience felt like a tranquil heaven on earth. This wall of trees turned out to be a napping spot for the local deer.
Wandering around downtown Sequim. This is a print of a stormtrooper teapot in the window of the Second Chance consignment shop.
I had lunch at the Rainshadow Cafe. This is their veggie bagel (without remoulade sauce to make it vegan). It was sweet potato, greens, cucumber, hummus, and sauerkraut-carrot mix.
