If I’ve ever taken Amtrak, I don’t remember, so I’ll say FIRST AMTRAK RIDE! Nene and I decided to take the train for a weekend in Seattle to see Hannah Gadsby’s new show, Body of Work. Nene left from her local train station and met me in Tacoma (this is the Tacoma Dome Station waiting room).
The view from the Tacoma Dome Station parking structure. (Parking is FREE!? for 24 hours.)
Nene is on this train! Somewhere!
Made it to King Street Station in Seattle. Construction of the station was completed in 1906, and the tower is modeled after a tower in St. Mark’s Square in Venice. At the time it was the tallest building in Seattle and the second-largest clock on the west coast (largest being the Ferry Building in San Francisco).
King Street Station was architected by a team who helped design New York City’s Grand Central Terminal.
Outside, the Jackson Street Plaza used to be where carriages dropped off passengers. It was converted to a parking lot and is now a park-like plaza for foot traffic.
On the way back! Looking at King Street Station from Jackson Street Plaza.
We got to ride the Coast Starlight train on the way back, the one that goes from Seattle to Los Angeles. (In only 35 hours!) It’s probably a dozen double-decker cars long, and it is nice! They gave us seats on the top floor, which were super cushy with tons of leg room.
This is the observation car. A National Park ranger is on board, and he live-narrates the awesome stuff you’re passing.
The observation car has a plastic tray where you can prop up your feet.
