Scenic Highway 12 connects Bryce Canyon National Park with Capitol Reef National Park. I thought it was one of the most impressive parts of the trip because I didn’t expect blazing aspens in the middle of red rock geography. We hit the last part of the highway just before sunset, so the trees were vibrant.
Highway 12 follows the second expedition of Major John Wesley Powell from Henrieville to Head of the Rock. This is closer to the start of the highway at a viewpoint overlooking the badlands.
I got to drive this! It reminds me of Pixar’s Cars.
We pulled over at a turnout during golden hour and took shots of the fall colors.
I loved the contrast of the yellow aspens and the red rocks. It looks like the eastern the United States meeting the western United states.
