I was dimly aware of the San Juan Islands, and apparently they are all the rage in the summer, because it’s tricky to get ferry reservations. But Nene got them! So we spent a day exploring Orcas Island. We started in the adorable village of Eastsound. This is the Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
A museum I’ve never been to. Since it was a holiday weekend, several places were closed until later in the week.
The rain took a tiny break mid-afternoon, but otherwise it rained constantly. So there’s pretty water-on-flowers shots!
Since we’d never been to Orcas Island, we followed the crowd. There’s a line outside this place! What is it! Let’s get in line!
It was the completely non-vegan Brown Bear Baking. But if you’re not vegan, they make great pastries. People were walking away with boxes of goodies for their breakfast.
We wandered around the cute shops.
Yes, I went back and bought that shirt.
The bell stand in front of the bookstore.
More flowers!
There’s a labyrinth next to the church. It’s modeled after the one at the Chartres Cathedral where the idea was that if you can’t do a pilgrimage (maybe it’s too dangerous to get to Jerusalem) then you can walk the labyrinth instead.
The view over the water.
Nene managed to find what seemed like the only vegan thing in town at the Orcas Food Co-op! It’s a sausage roll with Miyoko’s cream cheese and Beyond Meat breakfast sausage.
