With new tubes in both tires, I tried the Jordan River Parkway Trail again, making sure to stay on the paved road and out of the trailside goatheads.

The 2013 Pioneer Crossing Bridge. “This bridge commemorates the area where the first pioneers crossed the Jordan River to settle the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. In November 1848, the family of Joseph and Susuannah Harker were the first ‘over Jordan’ and built a log home.”
And I’m assuming this nearby structure is the Harker log cabin, although I couldn’t find any signs saying so.
This is also nearby. It also did not have a sign.

Salt Lake City from the Glendale Golf Course.
Just after crossing this bridge about four miles from home, the front tire went flat. Apparently goatheads can work their way onto the paved trail, who knew? Luckily, a seat pack, spare tubes, and a tire lever had arrived the day before from my father.
The back tire went flat suddenly as I crossed these tracks about a mile and a half from home.
The bad news was that I’d used my only spare tube on the front tire. The good news was that I was right next to the train, which I took home.
On an unrelated note, summer called it quits this week. The news broadcast frost and freeze warnings, bright orange patches dot the green mountainsides, and this is what the neighbor’s tree looked like today. So not mentally prepared!
