Armed with a cutting board and a butter knife from my Jersey City Airbnb, I headed for Manhattan for a charcuterie scavenger hunt! The idea is that you make a list of ingredients, decide on the best places to get them, figure out the most efficient subway routes to visit all those places, and then assemble everything for a picnic lunch in Central Park.
First up is crackers and olives from Eataly.
Then a visit to Riverdel, a vegan cheesemonger at Essex Market. I wish I’d gone sooner because the cheese is really good. The cashier recommended truffle-ash, truffle-ramp, and sundried tomato flavors, and they were phenomenal. The truffle-ash (called “Trash”) was especially mind-blowing. Plus they had vegan salami! That salami was also addictive–the cashier said they only had one flavor because the others sell out so quickly.
Dried apricots and rosemary Marcona almonds from Trader Joe’s.
And fruit from Whole Foods.
Picnic time! This spot has views of both the boathouse and Bow Bridge.

  1. This is so inspirational! And looks delicious! The icing on the cake is the view in Central Park. And I have to say I want to visit Riverdel. Well Done!
