Breakfast Republic is a Southern California chain that started in San Diego. They opened in Long Beach about a year ago, and their Long Beach patio has been crowded ever since.

They have five amazing-sounding vegan entrees: an omelet, a burrito, a frittata, avocado toast, and the Jammin’ Bennie (pictured). The Jammin’ Bennie is blackberry-jalapeño jam, vegan Italian sausage, plant-based eggs, and vegan hollandaise served with a side of breakfast potatoes. I ended up dipping my potatoes in the sauce rather than ketchup (which is high praise considering how much I like potatoes and ketchup).
Breakfast Republic also has delightful food for the carnivores. This is Nene’s Breakfast Bacon Mac ‘N’ Cheese. (If you want, you can opt for the Jurassic Pork upgrade, which is thick-cut bacon marinated and baked with paprika and brown sugar.)
The sign on the podium is a photo of Christopher Walken that says “No reservations Walkens only.” The weather was cold while Nene was here, and Breakfast Republic had the most delightful heater on the patio. It was the first time we were warm in two days. The place had great atmosphere and great merch–syrup pitchers shaped like roosters, shirts that say “Friends with benedicts,” and “I ♥ bacon” socks. It’s the kind of place I wanted to re-visit as soon as we’d left.
