Spicy Sugar isn’t totally vegan, but they have so many vegan options that you probably won’t notice. Most of the items on their menu have a vegan version, including the Pad Thai (which is hard to find without egg), and that Pad Thai is delicious. Actually, all the vegan things I’ve tried from Spicy Sugar are delicous.
Spicy Sugar changed ownership in 2021, and fortunately the new owners continued the vegan options.
The new owners also redecorated the inside of the restaurant.
I’ve spent many happy minutes here while they ran my credit card for my to-go order. The most interesting thing to look at while you’re waiting is a Matt Groening portrait of Chef Tui. (Spicy Sugar was started by his daughter, Sugar Sungkamee.) Chef Tui’s original restaurant, Jitlada, still exists in East Hollywood and even got reviewed by famed Los Angeles Times food critic Jonathan Gold.
