Since UCLA concessions forgot to pack vegan food for the Wrexham game, I was forced to flee to the UCLA village in search of dinner. Fortunately Bollywood Bites came to the rescue. Chef Sanjay Patel worked as sous-chef at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills before becoming personal chef to Michael Jackson, and the restaurant’s photo wall is impressive (photos of Chef Patel with Elizabeth Taylor, Morgan Freeman, Al Gore, Harrison Ford, etc.)
After the UCLA concessions menu it was a pleasure to see a menu with lots of clearly marked vegan options. The most exciting thing was the vegan mango lassi, which I inhaled (partly because I was hungry and partly because it was so good). I ate the samosas while I wandered toward the train, alternating dipping sauces because I couldn’t decide which one I liked better. If I’m ever food-less at UCLA again, I know where to go. (There is a Veggie Grill, but it closes early.)
On my walk I heard what I thought was a skateboarder behind me, but they wouldn’t pass for some reason. So I finally just stopped and was surprised to see a Coco food delivery robot trundle by. (I guess it’s programmed to not pass a human if that human is moving?) The robot was also able to recognize intersections and understand walk/don’t walk signs for the pedestrian traffic. So I got to wait with it at the crosswalk until the sign changed. So cool.
