Kalaloch is in Olympic National Park and includes the park’s only coastal lodging. There’s a campground, some cabins, and Kalaloch Lodge. All accommodations are on a bluff overlooking this stretch of beach.
Kalaloch is also home to the Tree of Life, a spruce tree hammocked between the bluff walls. Given the intense wind that runs through the area and takes down well-anchored trees, the fact that this tree is still hanging in there presents a mystery. (Rumor is that experts expect the tree to fall soon.)
Beach mist.
Bluff flowers.
Beach birds.
Kalaloch Lodge and some of the cabins. The lodge has been here in some form since the 1920s when it was built of driftwood. This building went up in 1953.
The Lodge is home to the Creekside Restaurant, which is a delightful dining experience. It’s the kind of place where the servers don’t need to write down your order and know how to veganize the menu without having to ask the kitchen. The main dining room has a wall of windows that looks out over the bluff and the water. And the food is excellent–this is one of the better burgers I’ve had, and the fries were perfect.
