When you go on vacation with a bird watcher, chances are that you will at some point drag your exhausted carcass out of bed at dawn to go see some birds. Such was the case on the morning we left Punta Arenas. Because our penguin tour boat was cancelled due to high wind, we decided to get up early the next day and drive to them. It worked, though. We were in place with cameras ready when they emerged from their burrows and waddled down to the beach.
