We had a huge project at work the week before Memorial Day, and they gave us Grubhub credit to offset the long hours! So first up is The 4th Horseman, an apocalypse-themed bar in downtown Long Beach. Their menu includes two vegan pizzas (Alchemy and Frailty), but this time they had a special, a vegan margarita pizza. It was strong, pesto-y with a little bit of bite. And addicting. I meant to eat half and save the rest for later, but I ended up eating all of it.
Next I got burgers. The first is The Straight Up Single with an Impossible patty from Vburger. Vburger is sort of new (their brick-and-mortar location opened in 2020), so they were on my list of places to try. The burger was good. Average. Probably not worth the price to get it delivered since it’s half a mile from home.
The second burger is the Aloha Beyond Burger from Ahimsa Vegan Cafe in downtown Long Beach. Ahimsa is not new–it’s one of the original vegan places in Long Beach–but this burger is new. It felt very Memorial Day-weekend-y to get a pineapple burger. Like Vburger it was good but average.
The stand-out deliciousness for the week was a second order from Pancho’s Tacos. I meant to get the enchilada platter for my second order until I realized how spicy the sauce is. So I opted for the nachos (sauce on the side), and that hit the spot. Gooey vegan cheese/sour cream, warm chips, fresh pico, and a meat substitute they call chik-end which was a perfect compliment to the rest of the food. And it was huge, a loaded entree-size takeout container. (Fortunately this time I managed to eat half and save half for later.)
